Polymer Clay: Simple Floral Pendant

http://facebook.com/claylettes
Some of you may know that I also run a home based business for 5 years now. My medium is polymer clay which is very much similar to plastic when cured. I've taught almost 200 polymer clay enthusiasts, been featured on several magazines and tv shows and made thousands of food-inspired charms. The "clay instructor" in me came out and decided to share how to make a simple floral pendant-I actually attached a pin at the back so I can use it as a brooch too!

For this tutorial, I used Sculpey Accents in Pearl. take about 1/8 of the bar (comes in a 2 oz bar)

Roll it into your pasta machine at the thickest setting. If you don't have one, you can use a roller, just make sure you create an even sheet.

Take a heart cutter and cut out 3 to 4 heart clays. take your slicer and divide each heart clay in half. These will be your petals.

*optional* take your ball tool and rub it from the middle to top of each petal in circular motion. please do this very lightly, you don't want to end up with super thin petals.

make indentations using a pin.

attach petals like so.

cut the bottom.

If you have mica powder you can use them to "color" your petals. If you don't, you can use OLD shimmery make-up.

I took out a gold bead cap and flattened it using my acrylic roller. Using a liquid clay (translucent liquid sculpey) I attached the flat bead cap in the middle.

For contrast, I used small logs of pink clay and rolled it at one end.

I placed a small ball of pearl clay and took out a small ball point tool to create texture.

Ready to bake! pre-heat your oven for about 5 minutes at 275 F then bake your clay for 30 minutes! :) This setting is applicable for Sculpey, if you bought a different brand, check the manufacturer's instruction for baking/curing.
